Danny Rohl's Rangers Revolution: From Fear to Courage
The Rangers football club is experiencing a remarkable transformation under the leadership of head coach Danny Rohl. Since his appointment in late October, the team has gone from a state of uncertainty to a position of strength, with a string of wins and a newfound confidence.
Rohl's appointment as Manager of the Month for January is a testament to his impact. He described it as a milestone on the path to even greater success, emphasizing the importance of small victories along the way.
However, Rohl's true satisfaction comes from witnessing the team's evolution in crucial matches. He recalled a time when the team might have been overly respectful or fearful in such games, but now they approach them with anticipation and determination.
"A couple of weeks ago, we might have been too respectful, too fearful, too scared for such a game," Rohl said. "Now we're looking forward to it."
The coach's philosophy is clear: win at all costs. He wants his players to embrace a winning mindset, where fear and respect are replaced by courage and a relentless pursuit of goals.
"The mindset is always to go for a win instead of a draw because then you are not fearful or too respectful," Rohl explained. "I want to see a team who goes with courage on the pitch and is always ready to score goals."
This transformation is evident in their performance. Rangers have scored eight goals in the Scottish Cup against Queen's Park, and their overall record under Rohl is impressive, with only one defeat in the Premiership, a 2-1 loss at Tynecastle in December.
Rohl attributes this success to a shift in mindset. He recalls a time when players approached games with a sense of uncertainty, but now they enter matches with a winning attitude.
"Ten to twelve weeks ago, you'd go into games and you thought 'hopefully, hopefully,'" Rohl reflected. "Now you go into a game saying 'of course we will win and if we do this, this and this right, we have a big opportunity to take the next few points.'"
This winning mentality has been solidified with seven victories in their last eight Premiership outings, the only blip being a goalless draw at Easter Road. Rangers are now in a three-way title race with Hearts and Celtic, and their resilience and mental fortitude will be tested in the coming weeks.
The team will face league-leaders Hearts and the formidable Motherwell, who have been conceding few goals at Fir Park since October. Rohl acknowledges the challenge ahead but remains focused on the task at hand.
"We have to deliver game by game and it starts really tomorrow," Rohl said. "It feels great that we're on such a run. That we took a lot of wins, conceded fewer goals, and are scoring goals. All things that give us a big belief and trust in what we are doing."
Despite the current success, Rohl remains grounded, understanding that the season is far from over. He encourages his players to stay focused and continue their winning ways, knowing that the title race will be a long and challenging journey.
"But the season is still long, a lot of big games ahead," Rohl concluded. "It makes no sense to look too far away, but if we can continue on our way then there is a chance for more."
