And this is the part most people miss... Bonsignore's success is not just about his driving skills; it's a testament to the strong bond he shares with Massa. Their 17-year collaboration, which started as a solid rookie season in 2010, has evolved into a close friendship. Massa and his wife have become integral figures in Bonsignore's life, and their support extends beyond the racetrack to his two children.
The first race of the 2026 Whelen Modified Tour season was a testament to the efficiency of the Bonsignore-Massa partnership. However, the checkered flag was not easily won. Bonsignore faced intense pressure from Tyler Rypkema, who was driving the legendary Ole Blue No. 3. Despite damage sustained from early contact with Ron Silk, Rypkema fought his way to the front, challenging Bonsignore for the lead.

"Late in the race, it's challenging to keep the throttle down when the track is hot and greasy," Rypkema explained. If I had a bit more speed, I might have held him off, but it was still a great start to the season."
The final restart of the evening was a test of Bonsignore's composure. Knowing Rypkema was at a disadvantage on the top line, Bonsignore strategically rolled through the first two turns, avoiding aggression to pull ahead. This tactic proved successful, and by the time Luke Baldwin's spin ended the race on the last lap, Bonsignore had secured the victory.
Bonsignore's ability to stay calm under pressure is a key ingredient in his winning formula. The chemistry he shares with Massa extends beyond the racetrack, influencing the entire team, from crew chief Ryan Stone to sponsor Phoenix Communications, who have been with the team since 2016.
