NFL Denies Fining Seahawks for Ownership Issues (2026)

Did the Seahawks actually get hit with a massive fine, or is this all a misunderstanding? The NFL is making a strong statement, adamantly denying that the Seattle Seahawks were penalized with a $5 million fine. This alleged penalty was reportedly for not meeting the league's ownership requirements.

Now, this is where things get a bit murky. A report surfaced from Andrew Beaton of The Wall Street Journal, suggesting this fine was indeed levied. However, in a rather direct response to PFT, the NFL's chief spokesman, Brian McCarthy, stated unequivocally, "As we told the WSJ yesterday on the record, the team was not fined." This comment was provided without even being prompted!

Here's the kicker: Beaton's article did include the NFL's denial. Yet, the report was still published. This leads us to believe that Beaton and his editors stand by their reporting, convinced the fine occurred, despite the league's firm stance against it.

But here's where it gets controversial... This situation is quite unusual and definitely calls for more digging. It's a clear-cut case: either the fine happened, or it didn't. Unless there's some incredibly obscure technicality we're missing, there's no room for interpretation. Someone's information is spot on, and someone else's is definitely not.

And this is the part most people miss... The NFL later issued a formal statement to PFT, reiterating their insistence that no such fine was imposed. So, we have a direct report suggesting a penalty, and a direct denial from the league itself.

What do you think? Is it possible for a report to be published with such a significant denial included? Or is there something more to this story that hasn't come to light? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
