Google's Pixel Watch is getting a much-needed upgrade, addressing some of the device's most frustrating limitations. The update, which is currently rolling out, brings a host of new features to the always-on display (AOD), including a functional timer, stopwatch, and media controls.
For those who've been eagerly awaiting an improved AOD experience, this update is a game-changer. Since July, we've been anticipating a redesign of the AOD through Wear OS 6, and it seems Google has finally delivered.
With Google Clock version 6.11, which is still not widely available, we're witnessing some exciting changes. The timer, stopwatch, and media controls now seamlessly integrate with the AOD, offering a more comprehensive and user-friendly experience.
When using the timer, you'll notice a subtle yet significant difference. The countdown ring that typically encircles the time and buttons is now removed, leaving only the time and buttons visible. Additionally, the seconds remaining are displayed without the digits, replaced by dashes for a cleaner look. The buttons themselves are now outlined, a subtle design change from their previous solid color.
The stopwatch has undergone a similar transformation. The countdown ring and increment markers are gone, and the buttons adopt the same outline design. Interestingly, the seconds are still displayed with digits, but the milliseconds are replaced by dashes, adding a touch of simplicity.
And let's not forget about the media controls! They've joined the AOD party, with each button sporting the same outlined design as the timer and stopwatch.
It seems that several Pixel Watch owners are already enjoying these new features, as discussed on Reddit. Have you received this update on your smartwatch yet? We'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.
